Reports of adverse reactions to cosmetics have doubled.
A lack of government oversight creates problems in tracking the growing number of potentially dangerous reactions to cosmetics. A new study published Monday, June 26, 2017, in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine, “reports of adverse reactions to cosmetics and personal care products more than doubled to nearly 1,600 complaints between 2015 and 2016. “
Did you know cosmetic manufacturers have no legal obligation to forward or report adverse events to the FDA , so any reports from CFSAN reflects only a small proportion of all adverse events.
FDA's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition's Adverse Event Reporting System, allows consumers or health care professionals to submit complaints about harm caused by using cosmetic products.
