Dermaplaning exposes smoother, more vibrant looking skin. Skin that easily absorbs facial serums and moisturizers
I like the way the skin looks after dermaplaning. I think it has a more luminous look. However, that’s my opinion. Perhaps because I always treat the skin with LED light therapy and antioxidants serums after each service. Oh yes! Sunscreen also to protect the newly exposed skin.
What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is safe Dermaplaning is mechanical exfoliation where the esthetician uses a modified sterile surgical scalpel to gently remove the outer layers of dead skin, fine vellous hair (peach fuzz) and hormonal coarse facial hairs.
Exposing smoother, more vibrant looking, skin that easily absorbs facial serums and moisturizers.
Dermaplaning, or dermablading is a safe manual exfoliating treatment. Providing a relaxing and gentle alternative to chemical peels or microdermabrasion making it a suitable choice for anyone who has extremely sensitive skin, redness or rosacea, or visible facial veins.
Will Dermaplaning thicken the hair on your face?
No. It’s a myth. Dermaplaning doesn't go deep enough to affect the active stem cells of hair follicles located in the dermis.active stem cells of hair follicles located in the dermis.
However, removing the vellus hair (peach fuzz) from your face using a dermaplaning exfoliation method has its advantages. With No Downtime….
Dermaplaning has a long history, but recently it has become more popular because people like yourself are becoming more interested in the procedure.
What Are The Benefits Of Dermaplaning?
- It reduces the appearance of dry, fine lines.
- It promotes quicker cell turnover and dewy skin.
- It smooths skin texture.
- It results in a healthy more radiant looking skin.
- It prepares the skin for further rejuvenating procedures.
Besides the instantly smooth, luminous complexion, dermaplaning has additional longer term benefits as well. By removing the dead epidermal skin cells, skincare serums can penetrate more readily into the deeper layers and thus, stimulate faster cell turnover.
Dermaplaning is also ideal when prepping the skin for procedures such as microneedling treatments or chemical peels. The treatment helps to diminish rough, dry skin, superficial hyperpigmentation, mild acne scarring and fine lines and wrinkles. The overall benefit is a more refined, glowing complexion.
Other Facial Treatments and Dermaplaning
It can be part of a facial, using ultrasound to enhance toning and product penetration or even as the manual exfoliation before a superficial chemical exfoliation.
Adding a LED light therapy treatment will give you “WOW” results.
According to the article in Semin Cutan Med Surg. 2013 Mar; 32(1): 41–52. “LED, which is a novel light source for non-thermal, non-ablative skin rejuvenation has been shown to be effective for improving wrinkles and skin laxity.”
Some medical centers use it to prep the skin before a non-ablative laser treatment. I use it before my Rezenerate facial treatment.
Is Dermaplaning Safe?
Yes, you want someone who is properly trained in aesthetics, experienced and follows safety protocols. It's a safe and simple procedure if you know what you are doing.
What I like about dermaplaning? It can be used on almost any skin type. Dry and sensitive or thick and oily. I know you pregnant ladies are curious, yes it safe for you also.
Sun Damaged Skin
A Word Of Caution - If your skin's ability to repair itself has slowed down As in the case of excessive sun damage. Avoid dermaplaning! Your The NMF barrier system is comprised. Your skin’s Natural Moisture Function (NMF) barrier plays an important role in maintaining healthy skin.
For additional reading on the the NMF barrier system. Healthy Moisture Barrier=Healthy Skin
Contact your esthetician or medical expert to see if your skin is healthy enough for this type of manual exfoliation. Either way, you'll still have to wait until your skin is strong enough for facial hair removal, because waxing will also tear fragile skin.
How to strenghten sun damage skin?
If come across someone with that type of skin condition, I recommend products with copper peptides, like Neova Power Defense. Scientific studies support the benefits of copper peptides in repairing and strengthening skin damaged by the sun.
Also, vitamin C serum as a way to correct and repair the damage done by free radicals. I schedule LED red light therapy treatments or ask them to use one at home.
I like the LightStim for Wrinkles. It has a FDA approval to treat wrinkles on the entire face. You can treat your forehead, crow’s feet, cheeks, nasal labial folds, jawline, even your lips with the LED hand held devices for home usage.
I have a LightStim for Wrinkles at home and I use it several times a week while I'm reading or watching television.
A broad spectrum sunscreen has to be applied everyday, in order to maintain good results.
It won’t happen overnight, but it is possible to improve the skin’s health.
Client's desire to stop wearing makeup...
Another advantage of dermaplaning is, over time your skin starts to look really smooth, even if you have large pores. I have a client who has getting dermaplaning for years. She has sensitive red Irish skin. The sun burns her skin fast. Skin care products will sometime be mean to her and she also has large pores. When she first came to me her goal was to one get rid of her vellus hair, she had quite a bit, second stop depending on make-up.
She no longer wear facial makeup, except on her eyes and lipstick. She enjoys telling me about the compliments she receives on her skin.
Another advantage of dermaplaning
It reduces clogged pores episodes by preventing dead cells and oil from hair follicles becoming trapped. You know what that means....Less Breakouts!!
How Should You Schedule Dermaplaning?
Usually once a month. Dermaplaning is safe, so you can get it done as often as every two weeks with healthy skin.
How Long Does It Take?
Dermaplaning adds 20 - 30 minutes to a basic facial.
How Fast Does It Grow Back?
Dermaplaning will not change the growth rate or texture of your hair. It will be same before and after treatments.
Some people say the feel their hair feel blunt when the hair starts to grow back. Most people aren’t aware of it until they notice and think, “I’ve Got Hair”.
How Much Does It Cost?
Your cost depends on your location and services you receive with it. It ranges between $60 to 150.00
- Treatment Only $60 30 minutes
- Add-onTo Facial $20
As you can see I like Dermaplaning.
Dermaplaning and LED Light Therapy
What are the benefits of combining dermaplaning and LED light therapy together?
It’s understood that dermaplaning gently removes some dead skin cells. This is considered “manual exfoliation”.
A few facts about your skin here….
Your body is constantly creating new skin cells and getting shedding old ones. Your body sheds about 30,000 to 40,000 old skin cells every day! Those dust bunnies you see are a part of you.
The skin you have today will be gone in about a month.
On an average the top 18 to 23 layers of your skin are made of dead cells. Normal movement of skin cells from the lower layer up to the top layer takes about 28 days, so your skin cells replace themselves monthly.
As you age, this natural skin cell turnover slows down. As a result, dead skin cells build up on your skin’s surface, making it look dull and lifeless.
Dermaplaning will not only give your skin a fresher softer look, it also creates room for healthier cells to migrate to the surface. In turn, sending a signal to the dermis layer to start processing new cells as replacements.
Dermaplaning increases the benefits of LED Light Therapy
Why add LED red light therapy? Remember when I said dermaplaning allows for new cell creation? Well LED red Light therapy provides fuel for the cells to do their job.
This is how it fuels your cells.
LED light energy in the correct wavelength, converts the light energy into “Adenosine Triphosphate” ATP. Your body recognizes ATP as fuel and uses it to produce collagen and elastin.
Additional skin benefits with LED Light Therapy.
- LED Light Therapy increase blood circulation, bringing nourishment to your cells as well as removing toxins
- Or as in the case with blue light therapy, destroying the P. acne bacteria for an effective acne treatment.
