What's The Differences Between Freckles and Sun Spots?
Reposted from AEDIT; Samantha Stone, Author, June 11, 2019
While freckles are more visible against lighter skin types, they are actually linked to the same gene responsible for complexion. The MC1R gene not only controls the likelihood of freckles but also it is responsible for skin color and hair color, particularly for red hair. Similarly, people with lighter complexions are also most susceptible to develop sun spots. The key difference is that sun spots are more common among older populations and can start forming in the mid-thirties. With repeated sun exposure over years, the skin cells start to produce melanin, forming the sun spots.
Additionally, the lifespan of freckles and sun spots is different. Freckles typically fade away with age and even seasons whereas sun spots tend to stick around longer. Because of this, sun spots can require skin treatments for removal. Read Full Article

Dehydrated Winter Skin Problems
This winter I’ve been using a space heater to help keep Maxx and I warm. They may keep us warm, but the take the moisture of the air. Needless to say, it’s been a challenge to keeping my skin hydrated without breaking it out. I wrote about the difference between “dry skin” vs dehydrated skin” and why it’s necessary to treat them differently. See, Skin Types & Conditions .
Anyway, I have combination skin. In the winter I normally use a gel cleanser, like Rhonda Allison’s Citrus Gel Cleanser or Skin Script Green Tea Citrus Cleanser . I like them both, it depends on my mood which one I’ll use.
Recently, in the middle of the day my cheeks starting flaking. I found myself using various serums throughout the day and misting my face with Skin Script Cucumber Hydration Toner trying to avoid the dry flaky look.
Not good, I was over doing it. Within several days I got two congested pores, one on my cheek and the other on my jaw line.
I Switched My Cleanser...
I’ve never had to use a creamy cleanser before, but I do now. I switched to Skin Script Pomegranate Antioxidant Cleanser. I thought I wouldn’t like using a milky cleanser after using a gel cleansers all these years, but, I was mistaken, I like the way it felt and it had a nice smell.
This is how I used it…..
I wet my fingers a little, then worked it around my face like a massage lotion. It kinda felt good. :)
Okay, that solved the problem for a while. But, my brow line was not happy. I have to use a brow pencil to help fill in my brows. I got a clogged pore on the corner of my brow, again! Remember the last time, “The Clogged Pore & Dirty Makeup Brush” . I learned my lesson.
Here are the steps of my mini weekly facial.
I washed my face all over with SS Pomegranate Antioxidant Cleanser.
On my forehead and jaw line I used Skin Script Retinol 2% Exfoliating Scrub, but I let it sit on my face for about 10 minutes to dry, then I used a lot of water a gently worked it in. My skin is sensitive and irritates easily. Hence, I’m very careful when I use a manual scrub.
Next, I misted my face and neck with SS Hydration Cucumber Hydration Toner ( I love that stuff)
To help my skin’s moisture barrier heal faster, I used Neova’s Power Defense Serum from my service room back bar products. I no longer carry it, however, if you would like one for yourself, contact me for a special order.
Then, I layered my SS Ageless Hydrating Serum, a hyaluronic serum over the copper peptide serum.
Finally, I sealed everything in with my ……………………….. Would you like to know the moisturizer it used? Text, email me or call me.
I’m happy to say, no more breakouts or flaking skin. Aahh, on the face at least! Now the body that’s another story.

A Look At Dehydrated Skin
Dehydrated Skin feels more flaky more sensitive than normal. You complexion has a dull and tired appearance looking, lacking its natural glow.
Dehydration affects your skin’s ability to accomplish normal cell turnover. Without sufficient hydration, your skin does not shed its outer layer normally and dead cells accumulate on its surface. This plays a roll in clogged pores, congestion and a lackluster complexion.
Dehydrated skin is a temporary condition and can be relieved by combining topical treatments with lifestyle changes.
Wear Sunscreen During The Winter Months
Don’t believe the myth you don’t need sunscreen on cloudy winter days. Not so, my friend! You still have to wear sunscreen during the winter months.
No matter how thick those clouds look in the winter, studies have shown that even on cloudy winter days, up to 80 percent of the sun’s UV rays can still reach your skin.
There are two types of UV rays that affect us, UVA and UVB. Although, you may not feel the burning effect of UVB rays, as you would on sunny summer days, UVA rays are still very dangerous in the winter.
Best Ingredients To Smooth Out Chest Wrinkles
Studies have shown using a body lotion or body cream containing both vitamin C and retinol can improve the appearance of skin that has become wrinkled through the normal aging process, as well as skin damaged by the sun.
“... results show that repeated topical application of a preparation containing both retinol and vitamin C is able to reverse, at least in part, skin changes induced by both chronologic aging and photoaging. “ Skin Pharmacol Physiol. 2005 Mar-Apr;18(2):81-7.
Strength of the label
Researching the net for the best body creams or lotions that combined both “vitamin A and C” , I found the prices could be as low as $10 or as high as $95. Why such a difference in the pricing? It had everything to do about the ingredients and the strength of the ingredients listed on their product label.
How do you read a product label?
The FDA requires skin care ingredients listed on product labels to be listed in order, starting with the highest to the lowest concentration. If the active ingredient you are interested in is listed next to the last, put the product back on the shelf. You don’t want to waste your time or money on a product that will give you little to no results. Just because the body cream or lotion advertises it has retinol and vitamin c, it doesn’t mean it will give you the results you are looking for. You must become an educated “label reader” for all your skin care product selections.
Milk Eye PuffsThe healing properties of milk have long been understood as a natural cure to a variety of ailments. Dip cotton rounds in whole milk, squeeze excess liquid out and place on your eyes for 15 to 20 minutes, several times a day.
This home remedy will relieve any soreness you are experience with your tired eyes while helping to reduce puffiness.
Does your mirror reflect puffy eyes or dark circle under Eyes?
When you look in the mirror, does the image you see has puffy eyes or dark circles? Perhaps you need a good night sleep.
Sleep is very important for your circulation.
A healthy circulatory system brings oxygen and nutrients to the cells . This a good thing. Why you ask? Because oxygen restocks the tissues in your body, including your skin.
A sleep deficiency slows it down. When this blood becomes stagnant, dark circles under the eyes may appear.
This lack of oxygen is also responsible for poor wound-healing and making the skin look dull and lifeless.
Lack of sleep affects the lymphatic system
A disrupted lymphatic system allows toxins to accumulate and swelling in the skin. Particularly around the eyes where fluid can easily build up, causing puffiness.
Why does the skin around the eyes tends to wrinkle first ?
The skin surrounding the eyes is thinner and more delicate, an area without many oil glands and collagen in comparison to the body rest, so it’s more prone to fine lines and dehydration, which makes it look dull.
As collagen decreases, veins are more obvious, increasing the look of dark circles. The thinner skin fills easily with fluid, causing eye puffiness.
How do you lighten elbows and knees?
Elbow and knees are the Hardest area to lighten on people of color because of the constant rubbing or friction of clothing against our skin and using our elbows to lean on a hard surfaces.
The continuing friction causes a darkening of the skin. The products you use on your face can work on you knees and elbow. Be careful not to dry out the skin. You have to keep that are very hydrated or it will darken more.
If the darks spots on your knees was caused by an injury. That’s another story, depending on the type of injury and the age of the injury, “one skin care product” will not work.
You'll need professional skin care treatments as well as home care products to control your melanin production. I like Neova Serious Clarity 4X.
How do I get rid of the pores on my face that appear due to acne? What are some good treatments or home remedy?
Pores are little openings in your skin. These tiny openings are attached to the sebaceous glands to produce sebum, the body's natural oil. Pores also house hair follicles.
If a person naturally has large pores, reducing them may not be a factor. But, it’s possible to reduce the appearance of large pores.
How? By keeping them clean and unclogged.
Don’t Over Cleanse or Over Exfoliate! Be gentle to your skin, it works hard to protect your other body organs.
Thoroughly cleanse your skin to remove surface dirt and oils. Exfoliate* to remove dead skin cells, to prevent them from clogging your pores. Finally, protect your skin’s pore openings and moisture level by using a light moisturizer.
Take into account your skin’s condition when you select your cleanser. Choose one that will give you the results you’re looking for. Do you need a cleanser to control your oil production? Or does your skin need anti-bacterial ingredients, such as green tea, totarol or tea tree? Your cleanser should not overly dry your skin or strip it of its much needed moisture.
Dermaplaning (Professional Treatment)
a manual exfoliating treatment to remove dead skin cells and vellus hair, (peach fuzz).
Microdermabrasion (Professional Treatment)
a light-cosmetic procedure, it involves an exfoliation’s mechanical medium in order to remove the outermost layer of the dead -skin cells.
Professional Chemical Peels
When you receive a professional peel from an esthetician or physician you could get a superficial or lunchtime peel, a medium or deep peel depending on the acid used.
At home peels
There are a few safe “at-home” light treatment masks available on the market. But, I should issue a warning at this point. Be careful when using chemical peel products. You could cause damage and more problems than you started out with. Some side effects are: skin inflammation, blisters, excessive dryness and flaking, hyperpigmentation, redness and or itchiness.
Salicylic Acid - Salicylic acid can be the best acne treatment ingredient to help reduce the number of cells around the follicles of your skin's oil glands
Lactic Acid - Improving skin tone and texture
Glycolic Acid - Smoother Texture
Don’t fall victim to the myth, “oily skin doesn’t need a moisturizer”. Use a light oil-free moisturizer. Every skin type needs hydration (water) to remain healthy. Some oily types mistakenly use too many skin care products that reduces their skin’s moisture level to the point of sensitivity. Your face moisturizer should have ingredients to control your oil production, protect your skin’s moisture level or add additional hydration if necessary.

Moisturizing daily is an important step managing dry skin.
Choose one that targets not only your skin type but the it’s condition also. Examine its ingredients. The ingredient composition of the moisturizer controls how it will effect your skin barrier function. Some moisturizers may have ingredients that weaken the skin barrier function, while others strengthen it. When you choose yours,,,,It’s a good time to ask, “What's In It For Me”.
