What Is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning at A Younger You Skin Care Consulting

What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning, or dermablading is a safe mechanical exfoliation treatment. Its painless and quite relaxing.  Skin feels smoothes like a baby.

An esthetician uses a modified sterile surgical scalpel to gently remove the outer layers of dead skin, fine vellous hair (peach fuzz) and hormonal coarse facial hairs.  Exposing smoother more vibrant looking skin that easily absorbs facial serums and moisturizers.

Also providing a relaxing and gentle alternative to chemical peels or microdermabrasion making it  a suitable choice for anyone who has extremely sensitive skin, redness or rosacea, or visible facial veins.

Is dermaplaning  the same as shaving?

Dermaplaning requires short strokes at a certain angle in particular patterns depending on the facial region and resurfaces skin on a much deeper and more effective level than shaving.  Most razors are much duller than a surgical blade.

Will dermaplaning thicken the hair on my face?

No.   It’s a myth  Dermaplaning doesn't go deep enough to affect the active stem cells of hair follicles located in the stem cells of hair follicles located in the dermis. Superficial facial hair grow back at the same rate and texture as before the treatment.

What are the benefits of dermaplaning?

  • It reduces the appearance of dry, fine lines.
  • It promotes quicker cell turnover and dewy skin.
  • It smooths skin texture.
  • It results in a healthy more radiant looking skin.
  • It prepares the skin for further rejuvenating procedures.

Besides the instantly smooth, luminous complexion, dermaplaning has additional longer term benefits as well. By removing the dead epidermal skin cells, skincare serums can penetrate more readily into the deeper layers and thus, stimulate faster cell turnover.

Dermaplaning is also ideal when prepping the skin for procedures such as microneedling treatments or chemical peels. The treatment helps to diminish rough, dry skin, superficial hyperpigmentation, mild acne scarring and fine lines and wrinkles. The overall benefit is a more refined, glowing complexion.

How often can you get dermaplaning?

Usually once a month.  Dermaplaning is safe, so you can get it done as often as every two weeks with healthy skin.

How long does It take?

Dermaplaning adds 20 - 30 minutes to a basic session.  Full facial takes more time.

Is there any downtime?

How fast does my hair grow back after dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning will not change the growth rate or texture of your hair.  It will be same before and after treatments.

Some people say the feel their hair feel blunt when the hair starts to grow back.
